How To Develop An SEO Strategy For Your Business

Over the past few weeks, we've been talking a lot about search, SEO, websites, and how to grow your organic search for your business.  Today, I want to bring it all together and give you 3 of what I feel are the top things you can do right now, to start helping your SEO and setting your business up for long-term success.

The very first thing you're going to want to do is to optimize your website.  I'm not going to go into every detail about how to do this, as we've already spent a week talking about this, but I will list some key areas below that you'll want to audit, to ensure your website is running at optimum levels:

  • Check each pages load time for your website
  • Make sure you're using the highest quality pictures/videos
  • Make sure you have a compelling header
  • Fill out your backend Metadata
  • Ensure that your branding is cohesive
  • Make sure your copy is on point
  • Have a blog
  • Check all your social media links to ensure they work
  • Have a gated offer (either on-page or as a pop-up)
  • Make sure that you have plenty of testimonials

I could go on and on, but this gives you 10 things that you can audit right away, and by doing these, you will have already put your website into the top 5% of all websites (trust us, we see a lot of them, and a lot of them are missing a good portion of these).

By ensuring that your website it optimized, it tells Google that your website is a good place to send people if they're looking for information on a particular product or service that you sell.  Most of these changes you can do yourself, however, when it comes to the copy, I would suggest you hire someone to do unless that IS what you do.

I know number two is going to sound like a broken record, but after you've optimized your site, you're going to want to make sure that you're consistently creating great content.  This means writing a blog a week, re-sharing your content on Pinterest, basically anything that you can do to help your website and your business.

What I'll never understand is this statement: "Are you serious?  I have to post 5x a week on Instagram?"  Yet those are the same people that go and give 10 hours a day to a boss that they say they hate.  You can't have it both ways: you can't have success without the work, and let's be honest here . . . posting on social media isn't hard.  It's just an excuse for a deeper reason as to why you're not posting consistently . . .

When you can figure out THAT reason, then you can start to move forward.

The third and final thing is something that a lot of business owners don't even know about, or if they do, they're not even really sure how to go about it . . . and that is backlinking.  Think of a backlink kind of like the collaborator feature on Instagram: someone is willing to collaborate with you, in essence giving you their "seal of approval" to their audience on Instagram . . . backlinking works the same way, now just think websites.

I'll give you a great example that actually just happened last week.  I was reached out to by a good friend Simon from Clubhouse who saw a blog I had written about Clubhouse and how to use it to monetize your business.  He too had written a blog that was around Clubhouse but complimented the blog that I had written (honestly his was better lol), so he reached out and said, "Hey Michael, I'd love to link our articles with each other, so that people could get additional resources around Clubhouse!"

So we did, and it was a win-win!  He has over 150K followers on his blog (which is great for exposure to our business), while we get over 10K monthly visits to our blog and that one, in particular, is a top 3, so his article around Clubhouse will get more exposure as well.

If you can start to think of backlinking like collaborating, it makes the whole learning process A LOT easier.  Google loves this because the more votes you have for your site and its pages, the more trustworthy you look in the eyes of Google.  One thing I will say though is don't spam this.  Too many backlinks can signal you as spammy and actually hurt your website score, so just make sure you do it right!
