Making sure that your Pinterest account is fully optimized can be the difference between you easily cruising past 1M impressions, being seen by your ideal clients, and selling massive amounts of your product . . . vs. not. That being said, let's talk about 5 key things you can do to make sure your Pinterest is fully optimized!
The first thing you're going to want to do is to understand what Pinterest is really all about. So often you hear people say, "It's quality over quantity," and while yes, for the most part, I would agree with that, Pinterest is quite different. Pinterest doesn't just want quality content, they want A LOT OF IT!
To pin according to Pinterests' best practices, you would need to pin 30-35 times every day (and we do). That is SO MUCH CONTENT! So when tackling Pinterest, remember that it isn't just about creating quality graphics, captions, etc. but it's also about creating a lot of it. My suggestion would be to create yourself sets of templates that you can use over and over to make it easier!
The second thing you're going to want to do is your keyword research. Pinterest, like YouTube, like a blog, is searchable and relies on SEO. This means that before you ever write any captions, create any graphics, you better know what the keywords are that people use in your industry, as well as the keywords that your ideal audience might be using and searching for!
The third thing is if you're a product-based business, and that is to use the "Rich Pins" functionality. Think of it like Instagram shopping, where you can link your products on Pinterest, so people can buy them directly from Pinterest without ever having to even go to your website! The easier you make it for people to see, experience, and buy your products, the more likely they are to do so!
The fourth thing has to do with how you write your descriptions and captions. Remember how we talked about doing your keyword research? Well, you're going to need all of that amazing info to now put to use when writing your captions! The main thing you DON'T want to do when it comes to writing captions is to keyword stuff or hashtag stuff your captions.
The first reason is obvious: Pinterest doesn't like it, and they will actually ding you in their algorithm for doing those things. The second reason is that honestly, it makes your business look bad, desperate, and kind of amateur. I look at it the same way as when I see a business with a Gmail account . . . it doesn't look professional. And trust me, people will think the same thing too!
The last thing, and you hear people say this all the time, is consistency. Just as a test, I tried not posting anything for 3 days, just to see what would happen. It was crazy, you wouldn't believe how much the numbers dropped just from breaking our posting habits for three days!
This doesn't mean that you have to post every single day, but it DOES mean that you need to figure out what consistency means to you, then sticks with it, because that is what social media platforms, ideal clients, really anyone wants to see, is that you and your business are going to show up consistently for them!
