Why SEO Is Important for Scaling Your Business Long-Term

If you're a business owner, you might hear the term "SEO" and want to go running for the hills . . . but today I want to share with you WHY SEO is so important, and really take the negativity surrounded with it, and explain SEO in an easy way, so you can start to take advantage of search for your business because let me tell you:
If you want your business to be around for a long time, you better learn SEO.
So first, let's talk about just exactly what SEO is. SEO stands for "search engine optimization," and basically means an ability to rank in search organically when it comes to traffic online. This can be for your website or other platforms that utilize SEO, like blogging sites, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.
Also, I'm not sure if you heard the most recent news? But as of a couple of weeks ago, there has been some serious talk about the other social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) going to a strictly SEO-based format and completely doing away with hashtags altogether . . . so now is the BEST time to start learning this skill for your business!
A lot of people focus on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which don't get me wrong, are great, but once you post, your engagement is essentially gone within 24 hours. This means you're creating all this content with the HOPES that people connect with it enough to have it last an extra day . . . seems like a lot of work for nothing, right?
However, when you write a blog on your website, you can consistently see traffic for months, even years, after you publish it. We can personally attest to this, as we get over 6K monthly visits to our blogs, and a lot of the ones that get the most traffic are more than 3 months old . . . how crazy is that?
Think about it this way: if social media is the short game, then SEO is the long game . . . and I'm assuming that you want your business to last a lifetime, or else you probably wouldn't even bother with all the effort it takes to run a business . . . but let me ask you then:
- Why are you not writing a blog?
- Why are you not re-purposing your content to YouTube or Pinterest?
EVERY BUSINESS OWNER SHOULD HAVE A BLOG. Read that again!
Because when people go to search for something, or they're trying to make a purchasing decision and they search a keyword related to your industry, do you want to show up? Or do you want your competition to show up on page 1? Because I'm going to tell you right now, that the business that shows up on page 1 is the business that's getting the sale.
More and more businesses are being started every day, which means that you're going to need to find ways to stand out among all the other businesses doing what it is that you do, and SEO is a great, FREE way to do this. If you're willing to put in 6-12 months of writing great content, you'd be surprised at how much of your content will show up on page 1.
