Why You Need a Solid Content Creation Strategy for Your Business

Let's face it: we've all been there.  Creating last-minute social media content for our business, and while yes, it happens to everyone, far too many people rely on this as a strategy.  Then these same people wonder why three months down the road their accounts aren't growing.

 

There are a lot of things to consider when coming up with a strategy for your social media content, but I want to break it down into three, easy to do steps that you can implement right away.  That way going forward, you can start to develop your own tailor-made social media strategy with ease.

The first step is to figure out how often you want to post on whichever social media platform you choose.  And this means for each type of content too.  For example, if we're talking about Instagram, you'd want to figure out how many of each of the following you want to do each week: stories, posts, carousels, reels, IGTV's, and lives.

The goal here isn't quantity, rather creating a consistent posting schedule that you can stick to over the long term.  It is much better to start small and grow than to try and do it all and suffer when it comes to consistency.  Being consistent is the key to success on any social media platform.

After you've figured out how often you want to post on social media, the second step is to figure out WHAT you're going to post for each type of content each day.  Below I'll give you some various examples of types of content we use when posting:

  • Educational Content
  • Emotional Content
  • Engaging Content
  • Entertaining Content
  • Personally Branded Content
  • Behind-the-Scenes
  • Selling

The goal is to test each type of content in the hopes of finding out what type of content they resonate with the most.  For example, let's use those categories above, and say that our audience resonated most with our "entertaining content" and "behind-the-scenes content," then our social media content strategy would focus mainly on those two types of content while sprinkling in the other types of content to add variety. 

The last step is to figure out then how your social media content ties into the rest of your marketing that you have going on for your business.  Does your email marketing add an extra layer to what you've already posted on your social media?  Do you have a different theme of content that ties together over an entire month?

The more your content ties together and makes sense, the more your audience can follow and get the results that you're wanting them to get when they visit your social media profiles.  If the content is all over the place or doesn't make sense, it may look useful to people, but they will quickly forget about it because the purpose of the content wasn't shown.

Your homework: take some time today and really think about what you're trying to do with the social media accounts for your business.  What's the goal?  What are you wanting your audience to do?  To learn?  Answer these questions, and then you can begin to develop a content strategy that makes sense and will ultimately convert!
