How to Develop a Social Media Strategy in 2022

Let's face it: there are A LOT of options out there when it comes to social media!  Between Clubhouse, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and all the others I didn't mention, it's enough to make a business owner's head spin.  So how does someone do it?  How do they develop a strategy for social media that allows them to maximize their time and ensure the most profitability?  

The first thing to ask yourself is do you have the budget to be omnipresent across social media?  If the answer is yes, then I would recommend to higher people like videographers, content creators, and graphic designers to help you create the bulk of the content, so you can focus on doing what it is you do best.

However, if you can't afford to hire people, here is the strategy that we recommend.  Focus on the 1-3 platforms that you know you'll get the most attention from.  Meaning, what 1-3 platforms does your ideal client hang out on the most?  If you're creative, chances are the answers for you would be Pinterest and Instagram.  If you deal with more data and analytics, Facebook and LinkedIn might be more your jam.

After you figure out what platforms make the most sense for you and your business, you want to think about what TYPES of content will give you the most bang for your buck.  For example, say one of the platforms you choose to utilize is Instagram.  At the time of this blog, Instagram Reels are getting the best engagement, so focusing your content on Reels would be something that would make the most sense.

So once you figure out what platforms will serve you the best, ask yourself what types of content you can create on those platforms that will give you the most engagement, attention, and eyeballs on your business.  The last thing you want to figure out is where are you going to be directing all of these eyeballs, meaning what ONE direction are you going to be pointing all of your social media platforms to?

For most people, this is to their website, so people can check out the products and services that they have to offer.  Others like to have it point towards a freebie, that way they can collect emails and start to grow their own list, of any social media platforms.  Others will go a step further and direct it to a Linktree that allows you to link multiple sites/products into one link.

How you do that is up to you, just make sure that there is cohesion across your social media channels.  Don't have one call to action point to your website, while another one points to a freebie.  A better strategy is to point them all to one call to action, then do something like separating them into segments on your email list based on what social media platform they came from.

So to recap, when developing your social media strategy in 2022, you want to think about three things: first, what social media platforms will I get the most attention from?  Second, what types of content can I create that will get me the most engagement on those platforms?  Third, where do I direct all these people who are seeing my content?

If you nail down the answers to these three questions, you'll have the beginnings and foundation for a very strong social media strategy in 2022!
