The Powerful Combination of A Winning Mindset and Powerful Habits

Over the past 6+ years in business, we've learned a thing or two, specifically when it comes to building successful businesses.  We've been able to develop a foundation and business strategy that has our business making multiple 6-figures within the first two years . . . how???

Well we'd like to share that with you today, because I think when people hear that, they immediately think that we'd be talking about social media strategy, or a marketing technique that's allowed us to get to where we are now . . . but you'd be wrong.  I really believe the there are two specific things that have gotten us to where we are today:

Our mindset and our habits.

Trust me, we tried building businesses only focusing on the marketing and social media aspects of it, and we weren't as successful, and we would wonder why?  We were doing all of the things that the successful people in our industries were doing, so why weren't we achieving anywhere close to their amount of success?

It was at that time about 4 years ago where we had our first business mentors come into our life (and literally at the perfect time)!  We showed them our business, all the social media and marketing content, strategy, the whole thing!  He nodded but seem really unimpressed.  Then he started asking us a series of questions I'd never been asked before, and I'll never forget to this day.  Some of the questions included:

  • What does your morning routine look like?
  • What kind of movies/books/content do you watch?
  • Would you say you're happy most of the time?
  • What does your network of support look like for your business?
  • What's the last book you read?

None of these questions (and the approximately 50 others that followed) were any that I expected to be answering, and when I did start to answer these, I started to understand why he was asking them.  The issue was a strategy/content problem, it was a foundational problem.

We didn't have a healthy, positive mindset, or habits built into our lives that would allow us to experience the results and success that we were looking to achieve.  Our business was built on an unsolid foundation, which is why we would always plateau in our other businesses.

So we got to work, first on building a better, more positive mindset.  I say it like it was easy, but trust me, this took years and is something that we still work on to this day.  Developing a positive mindset simply means that no matter what the situation, you choose to look at it in a positive way.  It isn't toxic positivity, but rather choosing to see the lesson or the positive in the situation, rather than focusing on the negative.

Because there are going to be a lot of different things that are thrown your way in business, and a lot of them you can't control.  This could lead to things like stress and anxiety, or lead to an opportunity to practice that mindset shift.  Ultimately, the only thing that we can control is ourselves and our responses to the things around us, so we focused on building positive responses.

The main result of this is that in a nutshell we became more positive, uplifting people.  We ditched things like drama and people really gravitated towards this, because who doesn't want to hang around people that are happy and going places?  We also started looking at hurdles and stumbling blocks as positive opportunities to grow, and not annoyances that we had to deal with.

When you shift the way you look at things, your mindset starts to shift.

And now that we had a more positive mindset built into our lives, we could then begin to start building in the habits of a successful business owner.  You guys, when I tell you that I had like, no positive business habits, I'm not lying to you.  Before this, I hadn't read a book since college, and even then, didn't really read them.

I basically had to start from the ground up when it came to implementing the habits I needed to into my life.  So I started small, with one habit, worked on it till it was a part of my life, then moved on to the next.  4 years later, I can say that all of the following habits are a part of my daily life that weren't 4 years ago:

  • Reading
  • Meditation
  • Writing
  • Exercising
  • Gratitude
  • Goal-setting
  • Action Planning

And I think that they're one of the biggest reasons for our success in business.  When you have the right habits built into your life that makes you feel like you're at your best, then that will help you when it comes to your mindset, because you're always making sure to prioritize yourself.  It's a winning combination!
